Barbara Wilson has been a performer, theatre director, and storyteller. Now, as a sculptress, she finds great pleasure recreating the human form from clay. Through mixed media, she continues to apply her theatre skills of defining character and place with figures inspired by classic literature. Materials include a variety of clays, and finishes (both cold and fired) and other media.
"Bottom's Up" was inspired by "The Dream Play" by William Shakespeare. Created with white clay, he is finished with acrylics and a sealant. His shirt is created with muslin dipped in wet clay to create the folds. In consideration of "place", an oak base was chosen as if he were sitting on the limb of an old oak tree! Bottom can be hung or placed freestanding.
