Barbara Wilson has been a performer, theatre director, and storyteller. Now, as a sculptress, she finds great pleasure recreating the human form from clay. Through mixed media, she continues to apply her theatre skills of defining character and place with figures inspired by classic literature. Materials include a variety of clays, and finishes (both cold and fired) and other media.
Jane was inspired by the works of Jane Austin. The period and style have always been a favorite of mine. Hence, the style and colors of Jane's dress are appropriate for the time. The vintage quality, I hope to have achieved is purposeful. She is created with white clay, the bodice of the dress is fabric hand dipped in wet clay and applied to the form before firing. The finish is a combination of acrylics and metallic paints and chalk. Jane's bouquet (most likely from a promiscuous affair) is hand tied. Commercial base allows her to be hung or free standing.
