 Kathleen Howsare

Kathleen has been painting since she was eight years old. She holds a BA in studio art from Mary Washington College and an MFA in painting from American University. After teaching art in public schools for over 32 years, Kathleen retired over 5 years ago and now has time to do what she loves; walking, hiking, yoga and of course painting! Kathleen has been a resident of Lovettsville for over 33 years and has found endless inspiration for her landscape paintings in this beautiful area. She works in acrylics and enjoys their versatility. Her style is representational/impressionist. Expressive color and texture have become important in her recent work along with increasing experimentation using painting knife. Kathleen shows locally and has won several awards.

Taken from a photo of the creek that runs through Chantilly, I was immediately attracted by the strong reflections and shadows. By using expressive color and mostly painting knife, I was able to give this woodland scene a fresh and glowing effect. An ordinary walk down a path by a creek becomes a vibrant sparkling experience.
