Christine Burroughs is known for her unique use of vibrant color and texture. A former special education teacher, she began taking art classes in her early 30's. Her passion quickly grew leading her to the world of scenic design where she became the co-owner and head scenic painter for a busy theater design company. Having grown weary of the sheer physicality and temporary nature of scenic painting, she recently turned her attention to smaller works of art and began painting under the name CB Burroughs. Years spent in the theatre world taught her that surprising color choices and unexpected texture make a strong impact on the audience while purposeful imperfection promotes authenticity and strong connection. CB is highly influenced by those who look for the beauty amidst hardship and her art is the celebration of the both the joy and sadness of life. Favorite mediums include acrylics, papier mache and cold wax and oil.
If you are lucky, one day you awaken to a desire to be truly yourself- fully awake, fully engaged; colors shining bright. You decide you will no longer accept anyone else’s definition of you. This painting captures the precise moment in my life when decided to live a life defined solely on my terms. Like waking from a deep sleep or escaping from a long, dark tunnel, my inner vision adjusted to a new and powerful light: blinking, startled, awed. It was bright and messy, chaotic and confusing. But glorious, oh so glorious. Acrylics, Soft Pastels and Ink on Canvas.
