Christine Dixon

Ms. Dixon currently resides in Loudoun County Virginia. She holds a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland in Advertising and Design and an Associates Degree in Fine Art. She worked as both a designer and illustrator for 11 years but her first love has always been drawing and painting. Due to her husband's employment, Ms. Dixon lived overseas for a period of 10 years before returning to Virginia in 2007. During that time, she made many visits to museums and galleries throughout Europe. It was during these visits that she became increasingly motivated to build on the foundations of her earlier education in painting. After returning to the US, Ms. Dixon sought to hone her skills in oil painting by taking painting classes at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Virginia. She also worked in the educational field as an aide and later taught art to elementary and middle school students. Since 2016, Ms. Dixon has been working from home and actively painting while exhibiting in various juried exhibitions. Her paintings reside in collections throughout the US and Europe.

The process employs a classical technique using layers of glaze to achieve detail and glow. I usually paint from my studio where there is no north facing light but for this set up, I moved my objects to a north window and did notice a different mood in the defused light. I am a classical painter because I so enjoy the process of rendering. Reflecting light through different textures and surfaces is something that for the moment I am compelled to explore!
